Global expansion of dialysis service accessibility

Healthcare providers and governments are expanding dialysis service accessibility through various specialized methods.

In Guyana, Enmore Regional Hospital is preparing to launch free haemodialysis services as part of an expanded medical offering, with staff already undergoing specialized training. Concurrently, the South Australian government is investing over $100,000 into a Mobile Dialysis Unit program to provide treatments in holiday destinations such as Loxton, Wallaroo, and Robe, allowing patients to travel without being restricted by proximity to permanent centers.

In South America, efforts are focusing on peritoneal dialysis to increase patient autonomy. The Hospital Honorio Delgado Espinoza in Arequipa, Peru, has initiated a home delivery service for dialysis supplies to reduce travel costs and physical strain for patients. Meanwhile, in Chile’s Valparaíso Region, medical specialists are advocating for a shift toward peritoneal dialysis to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system, noting that the vast majority of the region’s renal replacement therapies are currently hemodialysis treatments.
