Global subsea cable infrastructure developments
Overview
Global subsea cable projects are advancing across energy and data sectors. In the Caspian region, Subsea Cable Assets secured a $20 million contract with Saipem Contracting Netherlands BV for engineering and installation services involving large-capacity cable transport carousels. Meanwhile, in Scotland, the 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind project reached a milestone with the installation of its second 85-km export cable.
Developments have expanded to include high-voltage and Arctic connectivity. Nexans has begun industrial-scale production of 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables in Norway to support the LanWin2 project, which connects German North Sea wind generation to the national grid. Additionally, Space Norway has contracted Ciena to modernize legacy systems and deploy the Arctic Way system, intended to be the world’s northernmost subsea cable system to support research and national security by 2028.
