Global wildfires and environmental emergencies

Overview

Multiple regions have experienced significant fires and environmental emergencies. In Spain, fires have affected A Coruña, Bueu, and Zamora, while a major forest fire in Berrocal destroyed up to 95% of local cork oak groves. More recently, a large forest fire erupted near Igualeja in the Malaga province, between Marbella and Ronda, on the Costa del Sol. This blaze has prompted the deployment of at least 120 firefighters and instructions for residents and tourists to remain indoors due to smoke.

Other international incidents include fires in Argentina, such as property damage in Puerto Madryn and Córdoba, as well as wind-exacerbated fires in Mendoza. In Ecuador, a massive forest fire at Cerro Casitagua near Quito affected approximately 300 hectares, requiring a coordinated response from the military and firefighters. Mexico also reported a boat fire in Punta de Mita.
