Gold exploration in Fiji and Solomon Islands

Overview

Gold exploration activities in the South Pacific have yielded significant mineral findings in Fiji and the Solomon Islands.

In Fiji, Kalo Gold confirmed the presence of electrum, a natural gold-silver alloy, at its Vatu-Aurum Project. Microscopic analysis of a drill core from the Wainikoro target identified a grain composed of 68.6 percent gold and 31.4 percent silver. The discovery, supported by the Camborne School of Mines, suggests that precious metals accumulate in fractured zones within the volcanic system.

Simultaneously, Sankamap Metals reported a high-grade gold discovery at its Fauro property in the Solomon Islands. A sample yielded 6.78 grams of gold per tonne in an area that had not been previously sampled. The company is currently conducting a district-scale prospecting program across its 24,100-hectare property, with many laboratory results still pending.
