Golden State Warriors roster and injury management
Overview
The Golden State Warriors are navigating roster depth and significant injury recoveries as they prepare for the 2026-27 season. Jimmy Butler is rehabilitating from ACL surgery performed on February 9, 2026. While concerns were raised regarding his value at age 37 if he contributes limited games, recent reports indicate his rehabilitation is progressing ahead of schedule. Butler has been increasing on-court work and showing positive results in strength tests for his right knee.
During the Warriors’ Media Day, Butler noted he has moved on to running, light basketball work, and dunking. He expressed confidence that his return will be ‘real eye-popping’ and stated that his biometric testing results are ‘off the charts’, though he did not provide a specific target date. General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. confirmed that Butler will not be ready for opening night.
By mid-October, Butler clarified his stance on a return timeline, stating, ‘As far as a target date goes, I wouldn't want to be a liar, so I don't tell anybody a target date.’ Despite his absence, the Warriors have shown little interest in trading him, reportedly declining to include him in potential deals for players such as Jaylen Brown or Anthony Davis this summer.
Alongside Butler, Moses Moody is undergoing a complication-free recovery from a ruptured left patellar tendon. Kristaps Porzingis, who joined the team last February, also appears to be making healthy progress. Regarding franchise pillars, Dunleavy has maintained that while the organization wants Stephen Curry to retire as a Warrior, they would honor a trade if he specifically requested one.
