Gondosóra program data handling investigation

Overview

The Hungarian Ministry of Science and Technology has referred the Gondosóra program to the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) for investigation. Minister Zoltán Tanács stated that the ministry has gathered evidence suggesting the improper handling of personal data.

The investigation stems from allegations that Fidesz activists used personal information from the program to contact elderly citizens. Reports indicate an agreement existed between the Government Service Center and Fidesz that allowed activists to access data of users over the age of 78. The ministry is providing documentation to the NAIH to determine if data was accessed improperly, copied, or linked to other databases for unauthorized purposes.
