Google is expanding the availability of Motion Assist to include Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 17, specifically the Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 and Flip 8 models running One UI 9. The feature is being distributed through Google Play services version 26.37.

Users can access the tool through Settings under ‘Google services’ and ‘Personal & device safety’, or by adding a Quick Settings tile for manual control. The feature allows for customization of visual elements, including color, opacity, and specific shapes such as circles, squares, pentagons, or diamonds. While the feature can be set to activate automatically when a moving vehicle is detected, Google notes that results are not guaranteed.

Recent observations in beta versions of Google Play Services suggest deeper integration for Pixel devices. This upcoming enhancement may allow Motion Assist to activate automatically when ‘Public Transit’ mode is enabled, utilizing contextual signals such as transit schedules and location to ensure reliable triggering even if motion sensors fail to detect movement.
