Google Chrome accessibility and translation features

Overview

Google Chrome provides various accessibility and translation tools designed to assist users with audio and speech. The Live Caption feature converts audio from browser tabs—such as video calls, games, or podcasts—into on-screen text. To maintain privacy, this process is handled locally on the user’s device without saving or transmitting audio data.

On Chromebook Plus devices, the Live Translate feature supports speech in 19 languages and can generate text in more than 100 languages. Furthermore, developers are using Chrome’s Manifest V3 architecture to build extensions that provide translated captions for meeting platforms like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom by capturing audio directly from browser tabs.
