Google Gemini Nano 4 device compatibility

Overview

Google has updated its developer documentation to specify hardware and software requirements for Gemini Nano 4, its latest on-device AI model. To support the Gemini Intelligence suite, devices must meet high-end specifications, including at least 12GB of RAM and a qualified flagship processor.

Compatibility is currently limited to seven specific Android devices: the Google Pixel 11 series (Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold) and Samsung’s foldable lineup (Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra). While Samsung devices are compatible with the chip, certain advanced features such as ‘Rambler’ and ‘Create My Widget’ remain exclusive to the Pixel 11 series. This transition reflects a strategic move toward local, on-device processing to enhance speed and privacy.

In a separate software development, Google is expanding its AI-driven ‘Device Help’ feature. Running on Android 17, this function allows users to control device settings—such as brightness, battery saver, or Do Not Disturb—via natural language text or voice commands. Unlike the strict hardware requirements for Gemini Nano 4, Device Help is expected to be available on all Pixel smartphones running Android 17, including models dating back to the Pixel 6.
