Governmental leadership and restructuring in South America

Recent administrative changes have occurred across several South American nations involving new leadership appointments and structural reorganizations.

In Peru, Félix Villegas Reaño was appointed executive director of the National Comprehensive Program for Family Welfare (Inabif) to modernize institutional processes and improve service for vulnerable populations. In Colombia, Andrés Felipe Velásquez Reyes assumed leadership of the National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) following a major earthquake on August 10. The DIAN has proposed extending tax obligations and suspending customs deadlines in affected departments.

Further developments include restructuring in Bolivia, where Supreme Decree 5675 merged the areas of Autonomies and Lands into a new Vice Ministry of Autonomies and Lands under Minister Fernando Aramayo. Additionally, Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (TIC) appointed Camilo Carrascal Vergel as Vice Minister of Connectivity, Germán Enrique Bacca Medina as Vice Minister of Digital Transformation, and Magda Yolima Amaya Arévalo as General Secretary to support initiatives in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
