GPS signal interference in Poland

Persistent GPS and GNSS signal interference has been reported in Poland, specifically affecting the Pomerania and Tricity regions. In July 2026, disruptions lasted for at least 90 hours, impacting civilian and military infrastructure including smartphone navigation, public transport, drone operations, and maritime navigation.

Analysis from monitoring stations in Gdańsk suggested the interference originated from the north or northeast, potentially linked to Russian electronic warfare centers near the Kaliningrad Oblast.

By August 2026, the National Institute of Telecommunications reported a drastic increase in jamming. Data indicated that during the first 19 days of August, total interference occurred on 63 percent of days. Experts attribute these anomalies to electronic warfare activities in the Baltic Sea region and suggest the disruptions may be a permanent fixture of the current operational environment.

Recent reports highlight a significant escalation in the severity and frequency of these disruptions. While anomalies have been tracked since January 2024, the situation deteriorated sharply throughout 2026, with May and June seeing major disruptions on approximately 70 percent of days. The interference ranges from single-band degradation to multi-hour, full-spectrum blackouts.

Beyond mobile devices and urban transport, the disruptions impact precision timing and positioning essential for ground-based radar calibration and satellite laser ranging stations. While the National Institute of Telecommunications attributes the activity to external electronic warfare in the Baltic Sea, previous findings from the Polish Civil Aviation Authority, Gdynia Maritime University, and Germany’s Aerospace Center have linked these disruptions to Russian-origin operations.
