Grand Orient de France leadership election
Overview
Guillaume Trichard (also referred to as Guillaume Trisard) has been re-elected as the Grand Master of the Grand Orient de France (GODF) during the 161st Convent in Bordeaux. His return to the leadership role is a rare historical event, marking the first time a former Grand Master has returned to the position in thirty-seven years.
Elected by the Conseil de l’Ordre for a three-year mandate, Trichard previously served during the 2023-2024 Masonic year. In his inaugural address, he highlighted a crisis in the democratic social contract, stating, “What is being shaken is not a constitutional text, it is the bond that holds us together.”
His upcoming term focuses on three main objectives: reaffirming the organization’s identity as a mystical and ritualistic order leading up to its 300th anniversary, launching the ‘Utopia Masonica’ public events in spring 2027, and organizing nationwide ‘Workshops of Democracy’ to foster public discourse.
