Grass fires in Vernon, British Columbia

Overview

In early August 2026, multiple grass fires occurred in the Vernon, British Columbia area. On August 4, three separate fires broke out in the Commonage area. Responding crews from Vernon Fire Rescue Services, BX-Swan Lake Fire Rescue, Coldstream Fire Department, and BC Wildfire Services successfully contained the blazes, which were suspected to be human-caused.

On August 9, another grass fire occurred in Becker Park. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP launched an investigation into the incident, characterizing it as a “suspicious grass fire.” Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze quickly.
