Overview
Efforts to bolster firefighting capabilities and civil protection in Greece have progressed through both private donations and large-scale state procurement.
Following a wildfire in the Agios Vasileios municipality that resulted in the deaths of two firefighters, Motor Oil (Greece) A.E. and the Vardignoyannis family donated a fully equipped double-cab fire truck, five pick-up vehicles, and protective gear for 50 volunteers to support the local community and the Preveli pine forest.
Concurrently, the Hellenic Fire Service has expanded its fleet through the ‘Aegis’ National Civil Protection Program. This state-led initiative, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, has delivered 14 new 12,000-liter water tankers. This delivery is part of a broader modernization plan aiming to procure a total of 1,711 vehicles.
