Greece noise‑violation police crackdown

Entities: Greek Police · Thessaloniki Police

Overview

In mid‑July 2026 Greek authorities began a series of enforcement actions targeting businesses and events that exceeded legal sound‑level limits. The first reported action, on 19 July, involved police in the western prefectures of Ilia and Achaia arresting four individuals – three men and one woman – for operating outdoor loudspeakers and an orchestral event that violated public‑peace and health‑regulation noise thresholds.

A week later, from the night of 24 July through early morning of 26 July, police in Thessaloniki conducted inspections of health‑related shops across several precincts. Seven owners or temporary managers were detained for using sound systems that surpassed permitted noise levels. The later operation broadened the crackdown to a major northern city and increased the number of arrests, indicating a systematic effort to enforce noise‑pollution rules nationwide.
