Greece‑Cyprus defence and energy security

At the end of June 2026 Greece and Cyprus announced a pledge to deepen cooperation on defence and energy matters, signalling a broader strategic partnership between the two neighbours.

In late July, Cyprus moved from pledge to implementation, unveiling a comprehensive security plan for the Vasilikos Energy Center. The plan, presented by the Minister of Justice and Public Order and attended by defence, police, fire service, National Guard and industry representatives, focuses on prevention, operational readiness and coordinated response across land, sea and air. A new Unified Coordination Center will provide a common operational picture and streamline cooperation among agencies, aiming to protect human life, the environment and critical energy, port and telecommunications infrastructure while ensuring uninterrupted operations.

These steps illustrate a progression from a high‑level bilateral commitment to concrete national measures that reinforce the shared defence and energy objectives pledged by Greece and Cyprus.
