Greek agricultural pest and crop management guidance
Overview
Agricultural authorities in Greece have issued guidance for cotton and pistachio producers to manage pests and crop health.
In the Serres region, the Serres Agricultural Cooperative (DAOK) reported that cotton plants are in various stages of maturity, with boll opening ranging from 20% to 70%. Initial observations indicated low levels of green worm and pink bollworm activity, with no reported stink bug infestations.
By late September, authorities in Central Greece and Larissa expanded their warnings. Pistachio growers were alerted to botryosphaeria and septoria, which cause the drying of leaves, fruits, and branches; officials recommended destroying infected plant parts and using copper-based preparations. In Larissa, cotton producers were advised on defoliation and the use of hormonal accelerators to maintain fiber quality, as notable levels of pink bollworm activity were recorded.
