Greek air defense operations in Saudi Arabia
Overview
The Greek Patriot missile battery of the Hellenic Detachment in Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA) has conducted multiple successful interceptions of aerial threats near the Yanbu region as part of the international Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept.
On August 27, 2026, the unit launched three missiles to intercept a swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) reportedly launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen. This operation was coordinated with Saudi Arabian air defense systems to protect critical infrastructure.
On September 24, 2026, the battery engaged two additional threats near oil refinery installations, successfully neutralizing one ballistic missile and one UAV. The Hellenic Defense General Staff (GEETHA) confirmed the mission continues as scheduled.
