Greek-American democratic foundations exhibition

Overview

A traveling exhibition titled ‘Founding Democracy in Greece and America’ (later referred to as ‘Making Democracy in Greece and America’) is touring Greece to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The exhibition was inaugurated at the Ancient Agora of Athens by U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoil and Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni. Organized in collaboration with the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the event highlights the historical links between Greek democratic traditions and American political thought.

The exhibition subsequently moved to Thessaloniki, where U.S. Consul General Matthew Hagengruber welcomed guests at the American Space Thessaloniki. The tour explores the evolution of democratic ideals from ancient Greece through the American Revolution and the Greek Revolution of 1821.
