Greek educational infrastructure and policy updates

Overview

Greek Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports Sofia Zacharaki has engaged in discussions regarding the modernization of the national educational system. Initial focus centered on strengthening public schooling through infrastructure renovation, such as the ‘Marietta Giannakou’ initiative, and integrating technology like robotics and interactive boards into classrooms. Additionally, efforts were directed toward increasing the international profile of Greek universities through foreign-language postgraduate programs.

Subsequent discussions with regional representatives, including Pieria MP Anna Mani-Papadimtriou, shifted toward specific local needs. These included the requirement for new buildings for special education schools in Katerini and the necessity of student housing for the International Hellenic University. The Ministry reported progress in Pieria through the distribution of interactive boards and robotics kits, while proposing new measures such as school gardens, first aid training, and the installation of student lockers to reduce bag weight.
