Overview

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has been conducting tours of various regions to inaugurate upgraded medical facilities and infrastructure.

In late August, the Minister inaugurated several renovated health centers in Northern Greece, including sites in Dikais, Soufli, Serres, Strymone, and Nea Michaniona. These projects were funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Notable developments included the expansion of the Emergency Department at Xanthi General Hospital and a budget increase for Drass General Hospital. While government officials framed these upgrades as successful modernization through EU funds, the KKE regional committee argued that the facilities lack the permanent medical personnel required to serve the population.

By mid-September, the Minister’s efforts expanded to include the island of Psara, where a new health center was inaugurated. To combat chronic staffing shortages, this facility includes residential housing specifically for doctors and nurses. The Minister described the project as a way to ensure stable medical care in remote areas. This followed visits to the Aliveri Health Center and the inauguration of the renovated Kyma General Hospital in Evia.
