Green Carnation ‘A Dark Poem’ trilogy completion

Overview

The Norwegian progressive metal band Green Carnation has completed its three-part trilogy, ‘A Dark Poem’. The final installment, ‘A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex’, was released through Season of Mist to conclude a project that originated in 2018 with ‘The Shores Of Melancholia’ and continued with ‘Sanguis’.

Inspired by Arthur Rimbaud’s ode to Shakespeare’s Ophelia, the final chapter explores themes of technology, power, and social division, blending progressive metal with rock and folk influences.

A notable feature of the release is the 16-minute ‘A Dark Poem – Orchestral Suite’, recorded at the Kilden Performing Arts Centre. This finale features the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Hanson, and the Kristiansand Opera Choir, prepared and conducted by Anne Haugland Balsnes. Band member Kjetil Nordhus previously described the trilogy as a long-term endeavor involving years of studio work, and the band has expressed intentions to perform the project live with a full orchestra and choir.
