Green financing initiatives by Garanti BBVA in Türkiye
Overview
Garanti BBVA has engaged in several financial initiatives to support the climate transition and green investments in Türkiye.
In late September 2026, the Dutch entrepreneur development bank FMO provided 30 million euros in green financing to Garanti BBVA Leasing. This five-year term loan is designed to fund renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable assets, specifically aiming to provide Turkish companies and SMEs with access to long-term foreign currency financing.
By mid-October 2026, Garanti BBVA extended its sustainability efforts by providing a sustainability-linked loan (SLL) to Vezirhan Çimento Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ. This financing supports low-carbon production through investments in a new cement mill, a Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) system, and a solid waste preparation and incineration plant. The loan terms are tied to the company meeting specific environmental performance criteria and emission reduction targets, supplemented by consultancy services to assist with decarbonization roadmaps and climate risk assessments.
