Guadalajara municipal service and spending disputes

Overview

Political opposition in Guadalajara has raised concerns regarding public service management and municipal spending.

The Popular Party (PP) denounced the “unsustainable” state of provincial waste collection and transport, reporting “serious breaches” in over one hundred municipalities since the beginning of summer. The party noted that collection frequencies have failed to increase as contracted during the summer months and has requested an urgent meeting of the Service Monitoring Board.

Separately, the Socialist Municipal Group (PSOE) has demanded explanations for an infrastructure project near Plaza de la Antigua estimated to cost between 10 and 11 million euros. Critics have labeled the project a ‘scalextric’ and characterized the expenditure as a ‘waste’ that fails to address mobility needs. The PSOE argued that funds should be redirected toward essential services, such as sidewalk repairs, city cleanliness, and rodent control, while also raising concerns regarding the project’s environmental impact and loss of tree cover.
