Guanajuato cardiovascular emergency response initiative
Overview
The Guanajuato Ministry of Health has launched a public health initiative to improve response to cardiovascular emergencies. During National Heart Week, Health Secretary Gabriel Cortés Alcalá promoted awareness of heart attack symptoms and introduced the ‘Cardioprotected Spaces’ strategy. This program includes training staff in hands-only CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED).
Following these efforts, the state accredited its first three ‘Cardioprotected Spaces’ in Irapuato at Tec de Monterrey, Inforum, and Expo Agroalimentaria Guanajuato. Officials emphasized that timely intervention in non-hospital settings is critical, noting that mortality rates can reach 90 percent without immediate care. Additionally, the University of Guanajuato conducted workshops for over 200 participants to strengthen community preparedness through the ‘Activate, reperfuse, and save’ approach.
