Guatemala infrastructure project developments
Overview
Infrastructure development in Guatemala has seen both the completion of major projects and the restructuring of stalled ones. The Roosevelt Avenue overpass, a project connecting Zone 7 and Zone 11 in Guatemala City, was recently inaugurated. The project, which began in May 2022, experienced significant delays and a cost increase from Q44.96 million to Q53.91 million due to unforeseen underground infrastructure. As a result, the contractor, CEBCO, faces approximately Q4.3 million in fines.
In a separate development, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) is initiating a new bidding process to complete the Petapa underpass at Avenida Petapa and 53rd Street. This project had previously been suspended after reaching 40.49% completion due to issues with the original contractor, CEBCO. Following a Constitutional Court ruling to reactivate the work, the CIV is structuring a new tender to finalize construction.
