Gun violence incidents in Atlanta

Overview

In early August 2026, Atlanta experienced two separate shooting incidents. On August 5, a security guard was shot in the chest while on duty in Midtown Atlanta, surviving the attack after receiving bystander assistance.

On the same day, a home in southwest Atlanta was targeted by gunfire, with approximately 30 rounds fired. Investigations later identified the resident, Robert Sinners, as the Communications Director for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. While the attack targeted a high-ranking election official, authorities stated there was no preliminary evidence suggesting a political motive.

Following the attack on the residence, police engaged in a foot chase and gunfire with suspects. Two individuals, Jermaine Howard and Gregory Vaughn, were arrested, while a third suspect remained at large.
