Gyeonggi Provincial education policy initiatives
Overview
Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent An Min-seok has been promoting a series of regional education policies focused on the ‘Alpha Generation’ and the protection of educator rights.
Initially, An presented key initiatives to the OECD in Paris, including ‘Phone-Free School’ to restore educational focus, ‘RAS’ (Reading, Arts, and Sports) for holistic development, and ‘Wall-Breaking’ to connect schools with local communities. These efforts included studying digital transformation and civic education through visits to various European institutions.
Following these international engagements, An transitioned to domestic discussions with local stakeholders. During a town hall in Goyang City, An addressed parental concerns regarding school bus expansion and the implementation of phone-free environments. Furthermore, in debates with teacher organizations, An addressed issues such as malicious complaints and the burden of after-hours communication, pledging to restructure administrative systems to be ‘teacher-centered’ and reduce workloads.
