Haiti education system academic cycle transitions

The Haitian Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) released the initial state examination results for the 2025-2026 academic year. Success rates varied by department for the 9th year fundamental exams, with the North reporting 93.45% and Nippes reporting 75.50%. Baccalaureate results for the West and Nippes departments showed lower success rates of 45.73% and 40.36%, respectively, while the ENIJE exams reached a 70.08% success rate.

Following the conclusion of the academic cycle, the government officially launched the 2026-2027 school year with ceremonies in Ennery, Artibonite, and Delmas. Under the theme ‘Yon Lekòl Pou Tout Moun’ (A School for Everyone), Minister of Planning and External Cooperation Dr. Sandra Paulemon advocated for an inclusive, high-quality educational system as a foundation for political stability and economic growth. In Delmas, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training Vijonet Déméro presided over ceremonies at Lycée Horatius Laventure.

Despite government measures to support families, significant challenges persist. UNICEF representative Geetanjali Narayan highlighted the necessity of support systems for children affected by the ongoing national crisis. Economic and security hurdles, including the financial burden of supplies and transport, continue to threaten attendance. Furthermore, many educational institutions are located in areas controlled by armed groups, raising concerns regarding the high risk of child recruitment by gangs.
