Haruhi Suzumiya 20th anniversary celebrations
Overview
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the anime series ‘The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya’, various commercial and promotional activities have been launched across Japan.
Initial celebrations included the release of limited-edition merchandise, such as character-labeled cans available via vending machines in Nishinomiya and at Don Quijote stores. Additionally, a line of 60-centimetre plush toys was made available for reservation through the TAITO GEAR & GOODS website, accompanied by a promotional campaign on X (formerly Twitter).
Following the merchandise rollout, the anniversary expanded to include digital and experiential events. The ABEMA streaming platform scheduled a dedicated channel to broadcast the television series and the film ‘The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya’, featuring a 12-hour continuous broadcast of the ‘Endless Eight’ arc. In Nishinomiya, themed exhibits and ‘homework’ challenges were hosted at LaLaport Koshien, supported by local tourism initiatives and JR Central.
