Hashdex cryptocurrency ETF developments

Overview

In late July 2026, Hashdex filed a Form 8‑K with the U.S. SEC describing a new Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (ticker NCIQ) that uses a tiered staking‑revenue‑sharing model. Coinbase Cloud is named as the staking provider, and the product is being marketed in Hong Kong and other regions.

Around the same time, Hashdex announced the liquidation of its spot Bitcoin ETF (ticker DEFI) listed on NYSE Arca. The fund, launched in 2022 and holding roughly $14.7 million, will cease trading after the market close on 17 August 2026. Remaining Bitcoin holdings will be sold and cash distributions to shareholders are expected by late August, marking the first U.S. spot‑Bitcoin ETF liquidation since the SEC’s 2024 approvals. The move reflects low assets, limited liquidity and a shift of capital toward higher‑return AI‑related assets.

The delisting of the Bitcoin ETF is not expected to affect the broader Bitcoin‑ETF market, which still contains about $78 billion across twelve products.
