Health and wellness initiatives in Kelowna

Overview

In Kelowna, new health-focused initiatives and community events are being introduced to support neurological and mental wellness.

In late September, the Medical Arts Health Research Group and the Research Finds Cures Foundation announced the launch of dementia-focused resources. These include a free Memory Cafe at the Laurel Packinghouse to support those with memory loss and their families, as well as Brain Health Clinics. The clinics utilize a University of Geneva protocol focusing on risk profiling, communication, reduction, and cognitive enhancement to inform dementia policy in British Columbia.

Following these announcements, community fundraisers were scheduled for mid-to-late October. The ‘Spirit of Hope’ event aims to fund Parkinson’s disease research at the Humphreys Family Movement Disorder Clinic, while the ‘Diwali for a Cause’ celebration seeks to raise funds for mental health care across the Okanagan via the KGH Foundation.
