Healthcare infrastructure development in Curvelo

Overview

The municipality of Curvelo has undertaken several projects to expand and modernize its public health infrastructure.

In late September 2026, the city inaugurated the ESF Irilda Mendes Machado Nascimento, a new Basic Health Unit (UBS) in São José da Lagoa. The project, costing approximately R$ 1.74 million, was funded primarily by the municipality with additional support from a Vale reparation agreement. The facility is designed to serve roughly 5,000 users through two Family Health Strategy teams, focusing on primary care, disease prevention, and diagnosis.

By October 2026, the city completed a new phase of renovations and expansions at the Dr. Márcio de Carvalho Lopes Municipal Emergency Care unit. Managed by the Municipal Health Secretariat, this expansion delivered 21 internal environments, including consultation rooms, a pharmacy, and isolation rooms. Similar to the previous project, funding for these improvements was provided through reparation agreements with Vale following the Brumadinho dam failure.
