Healthcare service and community initiatives in Portugal

Healthcare initiatives in Portugal have focused on professional standards, preventative health, and community-based support programs.

In the Alentejo region, the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth reviewed the results of the ‘Programa Cuida-te’, a program running from May 2025 to July 2026 aimed at youth health prevention and promotion. Concurrently, the Ordem dos Enfermeiros conducted monitoring visits to the Unidade Local de Saúde do Alentejo Central (ULSAC) to inspect facilities such as operating rooms and emergency services to assess working conditions and ensure nursing care quality.

More recent efforts include the Unidade Local de Saúde do Alentejo Central (ULSAC) launching the “Capacitar para Comunicar com a População Migrante” program. This initiative trains medical and nursing professionals to provide culturally sensitive care to migrant populations. Additionally, the Unidade Local de Saúde Lezíria has organized a “Death Café” session in Santarém to facilitate community discussions regarding end-of-life topics and palliative care.
