Overview
In late July 2026 the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate for Heart Aerospace’s X1 hybrid‑electric demonstrator, allowing flight‑test operations at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York. The first notice highlighted the aircraft’s size, specifications and the company’s relocation of its R&D centre to the United States after completing extensive ground‑test campaigns.
Two days later the announcement was reiterated, adding that the X1 will serve as a technology platform for the planned 30‑seat ES‑30 regional airliner. Icelandair, a member of the aircraft’s advisory board, signed a letter of intent for five ES‑30s, aiming for commercial service by 2031. Heart Aerospace projected operating‑cost savings of over 40 % versus conventional regional jets, underscoring the commercial interest spurred by the FAA approval.
