Heart attack incidents in Turkish football

Overview

The Turkish football community has recently been marked by instances of sudden cardiac events. On September 4, commemorations were held for former player Ediz Bahtiyaroğlu on the 14th anniversary of his death from a sudden heart attack at age 26.

On September 5, a separate fatal heart attack occurred during a Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş derby, claiming the life of 48-year-old Fenerbahçe supporter and veteran Gerçek Yaşar. Following his funeral in Mersin, the Fenerbahçe club announced it would provide support for Yaşar’s surviving children.
