Heating season safety advisories in Turkey and Moldova
Overview
In preparation for the winter season, industry and emergency organizations in Turkey and Moldova have issued safety warnings regarding heating systems.
In Turkey, the Heating Industry Manufacturers and Businessmen Association (DOSİDER) advised consumers to have boilers and central heating systems inspected by authorized technicians. The association warned against using unauthorized services or deceptive websites and emphasized that ventilation vents must remain open to ensure safety. DOSİDER also noted that reducing room temperatures by one degree can lead to a 6 percent fuel saving.
In Moldova, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) issued recommendations to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Officials urged citizens to inspect stoves for cracks, avoid using flammable liquids to start fires, and keep combustible objects away from heating units. To prevent carbon monoxide intoxication, the IGSU recommended regular room aeration and the use of ventilation channels.
