Heavy rainfall and flooding in Colombia

Overview

Heavy rainfall has triggered states of public calamity in multiple Colombian municipalities. In Soacha, Cundinamarca, Mayor Julián Sánchez issued Decree 119 of 2026 to mobilize resources for addressing flooding, erosion, and road damage. Authorities reported over 100 emergencies and the removal of nearly 980 cubic meters of debris since mid October.

In Norte de Santander, the municipality of Ocaña extended its own declaration of public calamity to manage emergencies caused by atypical rainfall and climate variability. These weather events have resulted in landslides, flooding, and traffic congestion. Emergency teams have been deployed to sectors such as Venecia and Los Arales to clear debris, manage blocked drainage systems, and provide humanitarian aid.
