Hellenic Fire Service maritime response expansion

Overview

The Hellenic Fire Service has enhanced its maritime wildfire response capabilities through the integration of Rafnar high-speed speedboats. These 12-meter composite vessels are designed for firefighting and civilian evacuation in coastal areas, ports, and marinas, particularly when aerial or land access is restricted. The boats feature a shallow draft of 88 centimeters and are capable of speeds up to 50 knots.

To support these maritime operations, the service announced the recruitment of 26 civilians to staff its Floating Means Service at port fire stations across Greece. The recruitment drive includes positions for five Officer Special Duty Boat Pilots, five Officer Special Duty Marine Engineers, and 16 junior-level Special Duty Marine Engineers.
