Helleniq Energy renewable and storage projects in Greece

Overview

Helleniq Energy has advanced its renewable energy and storage infrastructure in Greece through two major developments.

In late September, the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy approved environmental terms for a 242.04 MW photovoltaic plant in the Kilkis region. Developed by Green Power Kilkis, the project includes a 90 MW battery energy storage system with a 360 MWh capacity. The facility is designed to provide industrial sites in Thessaloniki with over 70% energy autonomy via a 15.5-kilometer underground transmission line.

By early October, Helleniq Renewables completed the construction of its first large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its industrial facilities in Thessaloniki. This 50 million euro project, partially funded by Recovery Fund resources, features three storage stations with a total capacity of 100 MW and 200 MWh. The system aims to provide flexibility to the National Electricity Transmission System by storing excess renewable energy. The company intends to continue expansion, with a new battery station in Meliti, Florina, expected to be operational by the end of the year.
