Heritage preservation in Mallorca
Overview
Efforts to protect historical and architectural sites in Mallorca have focused on both archaeological stabilization and formal legal protections.
In Sencelles, technical teams conducted interventions at the Can Xim site to secure the prehistoric Talaiot 1 structure. The work involved removing a large fig tree that was displacing stones and destabilizing walls, followed by the repositioning of original stone blocks and the addition of new elements to consolidate the site.
In Binissalem, the Consell de Mallorca has begun the process of declaring the Can Marc estate a ‘Bien de Interés Cultural’ (BIC) under the monument category. The estate, which includes a residence, winery, and orchards, was acquired by the local government for 2.3 million euros. It is intended to serve as a wine and vineyard interpretation center, preserving its 17th- to 19th-century viticultural history and Rococo-style architectural features.
