Heroes of the Storm development resumption

Overview

During the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, Blizzard Entertainment announced that active development has resumed for Heroes of the Storm. Lead Game Producer James Yen stated that although the game entered an indefinite hiatus in 2022, a small group of developers has been working to bring the title back, motivated by the community.

Following this announcement, Blizzard released Xal’atath as the 91st hero, marking the first new character addition to the game in nearly six years. Xal’atath is a medium-difficulty ranged assassin utilizing Void-themed mechanics. To celebrate the launch, Blizzard offered rewards via Twitch drops and teased that further content, including a potential 92nd hero, is in development.
