HerzOliveFest olive oil festival in Mostar
Overview
The Hercegovačka udruga uljara i maslinara (HUUM) organized the inaugural HerzOliveFest, titled ‘Zlatne kapi Hercegovine’, on August 21 and 22, 2026, at the Romanca restaurant in Bišće polje. The festival was designed to capitalize on the international success of Herzegovinian olive oils, following HUUM securing 15 gold medals and one silver medal at the New Olive Oil Competition, as well as the region attaining Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.
Under the patronage of Borjana Krišto, President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the event featured professional organoleptic assessments, exhibitions of extra virgin oils, and displays of olive-based cosmetics and wooden souvenirs. A central component was the cross-border panel, ‘Eastern Adriatic – a smart and sustainable capital of premium olive growing’, which convened experts from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to address industry development, climate change resilience, and the necessity of education and connectivity.
During the festival, the Association of Olive Growers of Zadar County showcased 14 award-winning extra virgin olive oils. These products had previously earned recognition at an international competition in New York, where Zadar growers secured 18 gold and 6 silver medals. Additionally, representatives from Montenegro, including the Olive Growers Association of Bar and the Olive Growers Association of Boka, presented traditional oils and discussed regional cooperation. Experts at the event emphasized the potential for creating a joint brand, ‘Jewels of the Adriatic’, and developing olive oil routes to enhance tourism and economic competitiveness across the East Adriatic region.
