Historical heritage restoration in Corumbá
Overview
The city of Corumbá has initiated several projects aimed at the restoration and preservation of its historical architecture.
In mid-September, the municipal government opened a bidding process for R$ 1.3 million to renovate the Pantanal History Museum (MUHPAN) in Porto Geral. The project, developed by the Foundation for Urban Development and Historical Heritage (FUPHAN), includes structural repairs to the roof and drainage systems, plumbing upgrades, and improvements to accessibility and internal flooring.
Later in the month, a larger restoration project was announced for the historic Hotel Internacional, valued at approximately R$ 3.83 million. Marsou Engenharia Ltda. was selected to manage the recovery of the early 20th-century landmark, which has been closed for over twenty years. This project, conducted in partnership with the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) under the Novo PAC program, seeks to preserve architectural elements and mural paintings to eventually house public offices and services.
