Historical memory and resistance initiatives in Florence

Overview

In Florence, community initiatives have focused on analyzing political history and preserving the memory of the Italian Resistance.

An event titled ‘NUOVI E VECCHI FASCISMI – NUOVE E VECCHIE RESISTENZE’ was organized to examine the evolution of fascism in Europe and the rise of the ‘Black Galaxy,’ a term used to describe various far-right and neo-fascist organizations. The program addressed contemporary issues such as disinformation and political polarization while honoring local partisan history.

Following this, the Tuscan Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Age launched ‘Resistenze femminili: fonti, storie, percorsi.’ This project utilizes archival research to document the roles of approximately 400 women who served as partisans or patriots during the struggle against Nazi-fascism, aiming to ensure their contributions are recognized by younger generations.
