Homophobic remarks targeting Héctor Bellerín

Overview

A controversy has emerged involving YouTuber and journalist Iñaki Angulo following homophobic and derogatory remarks directed at Real Betis footballer Héctor Bellerín. In a video posted after a match against Real Madrid, Angulo reportedly mocked Bellerín’s gender expression and used offensive language, including the term “maricón encubierto” (undercover faggot).

In response to the comments, footballer Borja Iglesias publicly defended Bellerín, describing the remarks as “a barbarity and a shame.”

The Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport has since filed a formal complaint with the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid. The association argues that Angulo’s statements may constitute a hate crime under Article 510 of the Spanish Penal Code, which covers conduct intended to humiliate or discredit individuals based on sexual orientation or identity. The organization has requested an investigation and the securing of digital evidence.
