Overview
Honda is developing new technologies for its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to improve safety and regulatory compliance.
Initial developments focused on reducing driver distraction through a patented system that monitors a driver’s gaze. Honda R&D is exploring a cost-effective method to detect steering wheel contact by integrating indirect capacitive sensors into the steering wheel spoke control modules rather than using traditional capacitive films on the rim. While this approach aims to reduce production costs and wear, engineers are working to mitigate challenges such as electrical drift caused by temperature and humidity.
