Honduras economic development and industrial policy
Overview
Honduras has initiated efforts to transform its national productive model through a new Base Document for Industrial Policy. Developed by the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE), this proposal focuses on increasing innovation, technology, and investment to improve competitiveness in areas such as value addition, production diversification, and energy efficiency. The European Union has pledged 6,615,000 lempiras to support the final design of this policy.
Building on these industrial goals, the country is also prioritizing infrastructure and trade expansion. The Honduran Chamber of Construction Industry (CHICO) and Cementos del Norte (Cenosa) scheduled an Infrastructure Forum to identify priority projects in the Sula Valley, including road improvements and flood control. Concurrently, economic officials are working to deepen commercial ties with the United States by seeking to modernize foreign trade processes, facilitate exports, and attract foreign investment.
