Hong Kong sports development and Asian Games support

In preparation for the 2026 Asian Games, Hong Kong has implemented a comprehensive strategy to professionalize and support its elite sports sector. Initial efforts focused on infrastructure and systemic upgrades, including significant funding increases for the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the expansion of specialized training facilities. The government introduced a dual-track development model to balance athletics with academics, alongside the establishment of an independent sports medicine department and the integration of AI for motion analysis.

As the games progressed, the focus shifted toward city-wide community engagement and public support for the Chinese Hong Kong delegation. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department established ‘Vitality Asian Games Viewing Stations’ across 18 districts, while the Kai Tak Sports Park served as a central hub featuring light shows and live broadcasts. Local community groups, schools, and former athletes have participated in these festivities to foster a culture of sportsmanship and support the local sporting community.
