Houston custody battle murder-suicide

Overview

In Houston, Texas, 35-year-old Cibelle Savella shot and killed her four-year-old daughter, Vivian, before committing suicide. The incident occurred on a Tuesday, shortly after a family court judge awarded primary and exclusive custody of the child to the mother’s ex-husband, Aaron Savella.

Court documents indicated the judge had previously imposed strict restrictions on Cibelle, including prohibitions on attending school activities and requirements regarding child support and medical expenses. The shooting took place at the family residence while a partner and a babysitter were present; neither was injured. Vivian was pronounced dead at the scene, and Cibelle died in the hospital the following day.
